چکیده

Background: Non-united fracture shaft of the femur after plate fixation is a common problem. Management this problem still controversial. There are many methods for treating femoral aseptic nonunions with broken implant which conversion to reaming solid intramedullary nail one procedures. However, reported success rate varies. This study aimed evaluate bone healing, especially callus formation, radiologically nonunion reconstruction using nailing reamingMethod: cross-sectional retrospective case analysis presenting 22 patients patient's age was 15 50 years old who underwent operation procedures managed by removing hardware and converting locking or without autogenous iliac graft at least six months. The healing process assessed serial plain radiography every weeks Callus Index method. Results: Conversion gives union 95%. Among patients, patient persisted in nonunion, two experience delayed union. index Fracture location (P=0,043) significantly affected formation (P<0.05); location, whereas classification (P=0,365), type (P=0,398), (P=0,510) did not affect (P>0.05). no significant difference time between graft. Proximal third affects No complications were noted. Conclusion: Nonunion both types Solid achieves

Reaming bone grafting to treat tibial shaft aseptic nonunion after plating.

OBJECTIVE To investigate the effects of using intramedullary reaming to provide cancellous bone graft, and reamed intramedullary nail stabilisation to provide fragment stability on treating tibial shaft aseptic nonunions after plating. METHODS 31 consecutive patients with tibial shaft aseptic nonunions after plating were prospectively treated. Indications for this technique included a tibial ...

Incidence of intramedullary nail removal after femoral shaft fracture healing.

INTRODUCTION There are limited data on hardware removal after femoral fracture healing. We determined the incidence of intramedullary nail (IMN) removal after midshaft femoral fractures. We also studied demographic factors influencing IMN removal. METHODS The senior author reviewed all adult femoral fractures with IMN placement in the trauma practice between July 1990 and November 2003. There...

Effectiveness of plate augmentation for femoral shaft nonunion after nailing.

BACKGROUND Treatment options for nonunion of the femoral shaft fracture after intramedullary nail fixation are controversial. The methods of exchanging an existing nail with a larger-sized nail, dynamization, removal of the nail followed by plating, and bone grafting have all been reported. From those options, exchange nailing seems to be the most popular choice. In our study, we used plate aug...

Aseptic nonunion of a femoral shaft treated using exchange nailing.

BACKGROUND There are many methods for treating femoral shaft aseptic nonunions of which exchange nailing is the simplest technique. However, the reported success rate varies. Therefore, a prospective study was conducted to further clarify the role of exchange nailing. METHODS From October 1994 through December 1999, 40 femoral shaft aseptic nonunions in 39 patients were treated using exchange...

Reamed intramedullary exchange nailing: treatment of choice of aseptic femoral shaft nonunion

BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to evaluate a standardized method of treatment of femoral nonunion of the isthmal femur excluding non-united metaphyseal fractures. METHODS Between 2003 and 2010, 72 consecutive patients with nonunion of the femoral shaft were operated using a standardized protocol in our trauma department and followed up for successful union and functional result. RESUL...
